All summer we’ve been focused on our goal of first getting the developer preview of EE 2.0 released, then the public version.  The good news is that the majority of our work is done.  We’ve had a very productive summer and accomplished a lot.  Most of the major systems have been completed, and the CodeIgniter integration is functioning very well.

Unfortunately, there still remain enough loose ends and details to make a summer release impossible.  We’re close, but as the saying goes, the devil is in the details, so we need to push the release into fall.

I apologize to all who have been anxiously awaiting 2.0, but I can assure you that we are as anxious to get 2.0 released as you are to get it.  This has been a huge project for us, so we need to get it right.  Rushing it to market before it’s ready would be irresponsible, so we ask that you give us a bit more time.  We promise the wait will be worth it.

Just for fun, here is a screen-shot of one of the alternate themes 2.0 will ship with.  Later this month (and on a regular basis until the release) we will share additional details and information that we think you’ll enjoy hearing.

Thanks for the update. Couldn’t agree more with this:

Rushing it to market before it’s ready would be irresponsible

Will this help get the remaining work done (see attached) ?

The transparency and honesty of EllisLab is what makes the company, and its products, so great. Looking forward to the big release come this fall.

Hi Rick (and the rest of the Ellislab team),

Thanks for the update and honesty. Glad to hear that it is all going so well and that is absolute testament to how hard you have all been working on the system. As many others around here I would rather wait until the system is 100% ready before seeing it so whether that be Summer 2008, 2009 or 2010 I can wait 😊

Keep up the fantastic work, you will get there soon and the rewards will be excellent.

Thanks again for all the great work you are doing on this and also on keeping the 1.x branch up to date as well, not an easy feat I can imagine.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

Thank you for the update. The silence was getting deafening (and I’m sure that has everything to do with you guys being WAY busy). I will look forward to regular “additional details and information” until release. Even the littlest things will keep me stoked.

So, even though this news is of a delay…take your time, do it right, and keep us informed. Thanks!

Thanks for the update.  Looking forward to hearing about new features offered in 2.0.  The anticipation for this product is downright painful.

As frustrating as delays can be, they are certainly less frustrating than half-baked software so it’s a wise decision.
    Thanks for the update.

Thanks for the update Rick. It is nice to know that the Ellislab is being responsible and taking the time that they need in order to get the job done right….

Am I the only one that had an orgasm seeing the screenshot? I thought that green and orange theme was awesome, but this alternative one just got to my soul.

Damn! I can’t wait, need more pics and vids to keep the hype flowing.

I understand the delay—it’s good for everyone in the long run. Let’s just get some communication flowing now that it’s confirmed that it’s not RIGHT around the corner. It seems like there’s been an info embargo lately, so this screenshot is a great first update!

Developers want to know what will be the new features. And how will they work

Well, from my understanding of their released info thus far, there aren’t really that many new features, just the File Manager. However, i’m very interested to see how custom dev will work inside CI now. To me, that and the aesthetics of the control panel will make the biggest difference to me. Everything i do is handed off to clients, so prettier is better. 😊
