    Hi,

    I own EE 1.6.4 and not the forums module yet. Since I want to migrate Helpspot forums to EE forums, I will have to do it manually and recreate each post/answer manually (what a tedious task). Because some of the posters already have an EE account on my site, I am wondering if I will be able to assign them as authors of their respective messages. Possible ?

    I have also needed this on a couple occasions so if anyone had a solution outside of mySql I’d love to here it also.

    @Aircom: if you have a large amount of data, scripting this would be the way to go; perhaps someone in the Pro Network could help you with this task to make sure it’s done properly.  If it’s a relatively small amount of data, you could use multiple browsers and EE’s “log in as user” feature available to Super Admins to facilitate proper data entry.

    @both: If a post has already been made, there’s not any built in methods to change that post to a different author.  Existing posts could only be changed through MySQL, and then you’d of course need to perform stat recounts to get everything back into line after doing so.  Again, you’re better off handling this particular task on import.

    Thanks. I’ve done it a couple times through mySql just by manually changing the author_id on the exp_forum_topics or exp_forum_posts. I did a forum recount after that but I wasn’t sure if this was all there was to it. Is it really just that simple?

    Thanks Derek. On my side, a “log in as user” will be perfect (didn’t even notice this feature).

    @mike: You’d need to recount member stats too, or their total forum topics and posts will be off as well.

    @Aircom: great, glad to help!
