Does anybody know the best way to incorporate special characters in EE? I want to write a Czech expression, ’ Zlaté Časy ‘, and tried writing it in Open Office and pasting it into a blog, but it doesn’t format correctly. Thanks in advance

It’s an encoding issue, but generally not a problem. You should probably use “utf-8” througout, ie in yur database and in all your templates. As you can see, it works here in the forum as well. “Great times”, hm?

    hi,
well, it’s already set to utf-8, so I don’t know why I’m having this problem. Not so much great, but ‘golden times’ or, I suppose the closest in English would be ‘golden years’ 😉

Well, I really don’t speak any Czech, and Googling will only get you so far 😊 Seriously, though, do you’ve got a link to the site in question? As an Austrian I am well acquainted with “umlaut” issues… In your case it’s accents and háčeks, but the problem is the same.

hi Ingmar, I’ve sorted it 😊 I had to go to Admin > Global Weblog Preferences and make sure you the “Automatically Convert High ASCII Text to Entities” was set to YES. I found a previous posting: http://expressionengine.com/knowledge_base/article/special_characters_arent_showing_up_correctly/

    My site, BTW, is http://www.clawdylawdy.dreamhosters.com/index.php/build_series/reviews_detail/zlate_casy/
I’m just fooling around, getting used to EE before I do something good 😉
    Thanks for your help

    hello again,
there’s just one other thing I notice about the link I sent you, and that is, when I insert some thumbnails in the weblog, the surrounding text suddenly turns bold. Without the photos the text is normal. Why would that be, do you think?
    Thanks
