Georgian forces have invaded South Ossetia. South Ossetia is a rebellious part of Georgia that is trying to break away with the help of Russian forces. What do you guys think? Who are the good guys here?

PS: I am talking about Georgia the country, not the state.

Whew. I thought for a minute there I’d missed my call-up. 😉
As for the gist, I haven’t been watching the situation so I don’t know who the good guys are, or if there are any. It’s possible the Georgia boundary including Ossetia was one of those artificial things like Serbia including Kosovo, or three different countries having parts of Kurdistan.
My first reflex would be to be suspicious of the Russians, though. Putin hasn’t exactly been a good scout, and from what I’ve read he’s out of power now in name only.

Just to let you know I moved this thread to The Lounge. Not really a “general” EE related topic 😉

The good guys are the people helping the wounded and the innocent. It always gets tricky after that…

I’m living in Vladikavkaz (Russia, North Ossetia about 300 km to South Ossetia). And I whant to say:
Guys - Russian is not agressor, Georgian just destroy Chinval, I saw Chinval about 2 days ago. It’s a terrible. Сadaverous smell in all the city, all building are destroy. Georgian have a one goal - to destroy South Ossetia, and Russian just stop it. American TV begin to talk about South Ossetia, few 1,5 ago, after Russian begins to protect South Ossetian peoples.

thank you uirobot, for your statement. also from closer (austria) it`s not easy to get the right image of the situation there. the medial opinion-forming is sadly omnipresent. maybe it`s all concerning of a planned pipeline or something else.
good luck over there.
