EE Iphone App

After the new release of the Iphone App store last week, I noticed that TypePad already has a downloadable app for the Iphone to allow posting to your site.  That got me wondering how to accomplish something similar for EE?

I know EE supports moveable type / blogger api calls but for me personally these have been useless since they don’t support fields other than header, body and title. Is there a way within EE to call an API to get a list of available fields per weblog?

This sounds like an interesting project which I’d be up for trying. I’m not sure I can get there without help but I’m willing to give it a try.

Outside of the Metaweblog API, I know of no other similar Mobile API EE sends out.  Sounds like a new Module or feature request.  😉

I never understood why EE doesn’t have it’s own way of remotely communicating but yet emulates the other big guys (bloggier, etc).  Hopefully this will get added in the future.

    **Edited for poor grammar 😉

I don’t claim to understand what that means. Regardless, you are always welcome to make a feature request if you are missing a particular feature in EE.

I was wondering if someone would ponder an App after i updated my iPhone and saw the type pad app. That would definitely be a nice feature for people on the go like myself.

Automattic just released a WordPress iPhone app, and it’s slick. Not slick enough for me to dump EE, but certainly slick enough for me to wish EE had a nice, elegant API 😊

I’m pretty sure I could get the iPhone app side of the equation working but I would need some type of web services to interact with EE, pull the weblog information, settings and allow posting.

You mean something like the Metaweblog or MoveableType APIs?

Well, if we are gonna do this right, we need it to not be lacking features. Basically, think MarsEdit or Ecto, but fully EE aware. MSM compatible, ability to edit already-posted entries, create new ones, etc. If you have tag module, you need to be able to tag. Choose categories. Set post status. Grab location data from iPhone gps, take an image from phone that is put into your post, recognize all your custom fields.

It’s a lot, but it would rock.

Those are way too limiting. They don’t recognize more than a couple of custom fields. Also won’t be able to take advantage of tag module, or direct access into photo gallery. needs to be EE through and through to be awesome.

An EE iPhone app would be so incredibly useful! Shoot, even if it was just a web app that was a stripped down iPhone/Mobile version of the Control Panel that would be very useful as well. Wish I knew more about the guts of EE! I hope the Ellis Labs guys are thinking ahead and planning for easier mobile integration in EE 2.0. I know a lot of my clients would use it.

Oh yes, EE iphone app would be sweet!
location aware, camera and photo lib aware, with text editing and category assignment.
I would even support the developer with a small compensation.

I would love it too, if I had an iPhone….  :long:

Haven’t jumped on that bandwagon yet.  But I might get my hands on iPod touch though.  😉
