I’ve currently got an index.html page sitting on my htmlaccess root that has a simple meta redirection using a page refreash to send users to my EE install.  This probably isn’t ideal, and I noticed that after doing this my site got ranked about 12 spaces lower on Google.

Is there a better way to redirect to my EE install that would be more SEO friendly?

Can you not just get rid of the .html file? On most servers that will usually then make them use the index.php file as the next most important file.

Failing that if you can use a .htaccess file then you could place something like this in it :

    DirectoryIndex index.php

Pretty sure that should also do what you are after.

Don’t know if that helps at all?

    Best wishes,

Mark, once again you’ve come and saved my newbie behind.  Thank you!  My index.php is in a different directory, but I used the .htaccess method and all seems to be working well.  It’s funny, I tried a different .htaccess method that I found elsewhere but it completely failed.

No problem. Glad to have been of help.

No such thing as a newbie in my mind though, just one who hasn’t experienced a certain process yet 😉

Hope it all goes well for you.

    Best wishes,

    Mark
