I can’t help but be amazed by the commercial WP templates out there such as Revolution and Quommunication. And I bet you can achieve just the same with EE… if you have the talent.

If these existed for EE as well, it would be a no-brainer for me to go with EE as I’m convinced it’s the better solution for my project. But at the moment the switch to a decent blogging backend is more important to me than an original design. And at under $100, the prices for these themes are very reasonable.

All I’m wondering is why there’s no interest in developing and offering such themes for EE? (Feel free to prove me wrong with a few links). I believe all claims saying EE is superior to WP but it could use some incentives to get a nEEwbie like me headstarted.

You could grab those templates for Wordpress and have them up and running with an EE site in no time. Just take a look at Mike Boyinks tutorial (linked in my sig) or even his new one, where he demonstrates how to do just that.

With EE, most people create their own original layout. That said, it’s trivial to port any template / XHTML to EE in little time.

So by ‘trivial’ I may assume a quick and, more importantly, inexpensive job to ask an EE expert? 😊

More or less, yes. If you know XHTML and are somewhat familiar with EE you could do it yourself, it’s really not that difficult.

I’ve only just installed it, but I’m too busy to dig into EE myself at the moment, so I’ll be contracting it out even though it sounds simple.

Maybe off-topic, but how hard is it to implement a third party script (eg. custom PHP thing, or a gallery like 4images) into the EE framework?

It will depend, obviously. Since EE templates really are XHTML pages + EE tags and also optionally allow PHP it is generally not too difficult.
