    Before I purchase I have a menu/navigation question.

My current flat css template which I will use with EE uses this vertical nested collapsible navigation menu down the left hand side.
    ( The menu is xmenu6 from cross-browser.com http://cross-browser.com/x/menus/xmenu6.html ).

Can I use EE to display my categories and their sub-categories in this manner.
I only require one level deep.

I need the menu to expand and collapse when clicked.

    eg.
    Cat One
    - Sub Cat1.1
    - Sub Cat1.2

    Cat Two
    - Sub Cat2.1
    - Sub Cat2.2

    Hope this makes sense.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Cregan

Well I haven’t had a chance to play around with ExpressionEngine yet so I’m not sure how to set up nested navigation, but to achieve the expanding/collapsing menu I recommend Accordion 2.0 from the Stick Man Labs. It’s good as you can control exactly what triggers the expanding/collapsing, so it’s great for integration with a CMS.

Thanks for the reply, I will have a closer look.
Looks like it can handle what I want to achieve.

Has anyone else implemented a menu system like this in EE??

hmm..just had another look at that Xmenu thing, looks like the functionality you want isn’t what Accordion does. it’s still a cool little script though.

    Hi there,

I did an implementation of what you are describing here:www.ehs.sfu.ca (left hand menu).
just output a list in EE and let javascript do the rest, in my case I used jQuery and the plugin treeview. bu jquery has a very nice accordion too at http://ui.jquery.com.

As a general rule of Expression Engine understanding: EE holds and provides the data; You can make it look like or function how ever you like.  EE’s middle name is flexibility.  😊

Very nice menu - that is exactly what I need for one of the sites I am developing now.  I did a quick search for the treeview plugin, but was unable to find it.  Would you mind pointing me in the right direction?  😊

    Thank you!

    For what it’s worth…

EE is just a platform / framework. In the end it’s just pushing html, CCS, Javascript, etc. out to a browsers. You tell it, EE does it.

If you’re looking for some limitation - a la templates - then that’s not EE.

    IMHO, of course 😉
