    Hello,

    I was wondering if its possible to somehow use the forum for blog post discussion. Macworld is an excellent example.

    I rather prefer this than the comment module, just so we can have all the discussion going on in the forums and can be directly monitored. Also we have lots of tweaks and the comments just seem to not fit in well. I mean, comments can be put in the blog itself but if anyone’s done comments through the forum, it would be amazing if you could share.

    Its almost exactly like Wiki Forum Talk extension, just instead of the wiki, the blog would be nice. I wanted to know of any good ways before I either made a modification to the Wiki Forum Talk extension, or go ahead and put comments directly in to the blogs.

    Thanks,
    Keehun

    The page says:

    You may use this conditional for displaying content when a forum topic has been associated with a weblog entry

    How do I go about associating a blog entry with a forum topic?
    It looks like I’ll have to create a forum topic for every new blog post, and that might cause some challenge. I’ll look in to how the Wiki extension does it, but is this documented anywhere? Associating a blog post with a forum topic? Or creating a forum topic with this blog data as soon as I submit a new entry?

    Thanks,
    Keehun

    In the Publish form, you use the Forum tab to create the forum entry at the same time as the weblog entry.  This is for new posts only.

    Thank you! Now works flawlessly.

    I have two more explorations to make:

    1. Is it possible so that this forum is always filled out automatically? Like, the contents of the topic is the blog post, subject the blog post title, and a designated default forum to put it to? I’m willing to hack/mod the CP page if necessary. 😊

    2. As the wiki talk extension did, can I have the forum detect that its a topic related to a blog and post a link linking back to its “mother blog post”?

    I’m willing to spend my time making these features, just need a pointer to the correct documentation and such.

    Thanks,
    Keehun.

    Here’s an answer to your first question: Link

    Now, I’ve inserted the following code after my comments tag:

    {if forum_topic}
    <a href="http://{path=forums/viewthread}{forum_topic_id}">Discuss this in our forums</a>
    {/if}

    ...but nothing shows up on my Entries, yet the forum itself displays just fine at http://www.cooltownstudios.com/forums/viewthread/1/.  What am I missing?
