There are a few similar posts about what I want to do, but not many solutions that fit exactly.

    Here are a few:
http://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/78047/  (Very similar, if not exact request.)
http://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/38223/ (Also similar, but for SAEF.)
    http://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/36671/ (Sort of similar.)

I want the title field or an entry to be set by the title from a related entry.

I’m making a TV blog, so there is one weblog with each show that I watch, and another that tracks episodes of each show. (Obsessive I know.)

Ideally it would work like this:

I publish an episode entry and I pick “Veronica Mars” from the related entries, then I type the episode number into a custom field, and this would cause the title of the episode entry to become “Veronica Mars 14.” I watch a lot of shows, so automating this would save time, and also make the “Edit Weblog Entries” screen more manageable.

    Any help would be great!

What you describe is very doable with a small custom extension, but without that I’m afraid it’s not possible.
