    Hi,

    I’m running EE 1.5.2 Build:  20061128

My web host has just upgraded my SQL server to 5.0.22 (it was running a 4.x version before).

There have been a couple of database lockups, which my web host is suggesting are EE-related. They’ve told me:

“The problem seems to be with requests getting held up because they show ‘waiting for read lock’. Which suggests one of your requests is locking the table they want to read”

I’ve searched the forums, but found nothing related.
So does this ring any bells with anyone?

    Thanks,
    Mark Goldstein

EE in general, and certainly the most recent version, works fine with MySQL 5. As EE 1.5.2 is rather old,  I strongly suggest that you upgrade to the latest version and build. It is rather painless, and might take care oft he issue. If it does not, at least we have a common code base for our troubleshooting endeavours.

    Thanks for the reply Ingmar.

I really wanted to try and establish if it’s an EE problem before resorting to upgrading.

I’m running a few other scripts (PhotoPost, Invision Powerboard and OpenAds), but my host seems to think its EE to blame, not those - so I just wanted to double-check if it’s a known issue with EE.

This looked vaguely familiar, and a search on ‘lock table’ turns up a few.  Traced one back to where I’d ask Paul about this one and he said

We actually have no commands in the native ExpressionEngine code to Lock Tables, nor do I see nearly any third party addon developer using them either.

Was a year back, but I keep an eye on the code and have never seen it either.  Don’t think it’s coming from EE.  But I would upgrade anyway.

Off topic, I know, and I’m really not trying to push your buttons here, but you don’t resort to upgrading, like it’s the last thing you’d ever consider doing.

    “Upgrading? That’s ridiculous!” 😛

Set up a test system, set your EE installation up there, try the upgrade procedure and perform it on your live server when you get it right.

Besides, you have backups, right? 😉

Be well and good luck to you… Nico
