    This question may be related to a resolved thread.

    Sorry to recreate this thread but apparently it wasn’t fixed after all. After shutting the macbook off for the night and opening it this morning I find that I’m unable to login to the control panel. I assume it was a cookie issue.

    To reiterate, the initial problem (possibly caused by being moved to a new server) was not logging in but clicking on an item under the publish menu. This would cause us to be redirected to the login page every time. I couldn’t get to the publish page.

    Now, after following some of the advice in the previous thread, I’m unable to login to the control panel at all. It just reloads the login page. I’ve added a session cookie, disabled Secure Forms and added this to the config.php

    $conf[’cookie_path’] = “”; to config.php

    Any advice is of course appreciated and let me know if you need any more relevant info. For some reason yesterday I didn’t get any emails to the replies in the previous thread…I’ll try and keep an eye out for any replies here. Thanks again!

    Let’s try it switching to sessions only, just so we can see if you get in.  You’ll want to edit config.php again.

    $conf['admin_session_type'] = "s";

    Clear your cookies just in case- then try it using sessions only.  Make sense?

    Hi Robin, thanks! Made perfect sense and I was able to log in, although not on the first try. Publish seems to work though not every time yet.

    Something just seems wrong if publish still kicks you out.  Hm- you definitely have secure forms turned off?  Not that clicking the link should require them.

    What build/version are you running?  And are you using an IP instead of fully resolved domain name?  Anything else odd in the backend- seem to run slow or anything?

    Yeah this is really bizarre right?! Never had this happen.

    So just trying it again and it appears that it’s working fine. I login ok. Click on a weblog under publish and it’s ok. Click on ANOTHER weblog and it kicks me out. Log in again, click weblog again, click another weblog….kicks me out. Then I can’t login the first couple of tries. So now it’s working but is very unstable. I haven’t even tried actually publishing an entry yet.

    Oddly, “Process form data in Secure Mode?” is set to Yes even though I turned it off. It took a few logins but I finally got it turned off again but still having the same trouble.

    Running 1.6.1 and it’s on it’s own domain name not IP…probably not relevant but mySQL 5.0.45…can’t think of anything else. weird!

    Hi, Joey.

    A few more questions for you.

    $conf[’cookie_path’] = “”; to config.php

    See this line? is that *exactly* what you added to the config.php file?

    or is it:

    $conf['cookie_path'] = "";

    See the difference?

    I’ll bet when you edited the config.php file you didn’t set back the privs to 666.

    You might be right! Let me check that right now.

    Sue, you were absolutely right about the privs. I set it back to 666, removed cookies, restarted browser (what the heck), reloaded, logged in.

    Unfortunately, I am still getting “logged out” (is it really logging out?) occasionally. Sometimes it seems as if there isn’t a problem and then I click around a little bit more and it logs me out again.

    I’m a little perplexed. I did double check that the cookie_path line as correct in config.php.

    Robin had you set:

    $conf['admin_session_type'] = "s";

    That means you are using sessions only, and sessions expire.

    If you change the value to “c” instead, can you still login?

    Oh that’s right. Yeah, actually changing it to “c” appears to work great.

    Should I keep my settings as is? I’ve never had to manually change things in the config so just double checking. Also, what do you think causes this? Just want to make sure I know how to troubleshoot this kind of thing in the future.

    Will definitely report back if there is any weirdness but it appears to be solid at the moment!

    Keep the setting to c, and you should be fine. I’m going to close for now.
