Show only uncategorized entries?

I searched the forums as well as digging through the docs, and I’m wondering if there’s any way to show uncategorized entries.  No, going back and re-categorizing several thousand entries as ‘Uncategorized’ is not an option.  A custom query is certainly an option, but I don’t want to have to resort to that unless I need to.  Any suggestions?

    Greetings!

One solution is to put all the category_ids that do exist, into a NOT statement in the category= parameter. Something like category=“NOT 1|2|3|4”.

That would work, but I’m looking for something a fair bit more dynamic ... authors have the ability to add categories and maintaining the templates to keep adding category ids isn’t really an option.

Would it make more sense to get a list of uncategorized entries and add a “Not Categorized” category? I set that up as the default category.

It would take a bit of time to set up, but it would be easy enough to do as a project.

If you want to leverage the weblog entries tag, a solution is to grab all category_ids via PHP, output them to a tag via the tag parameter (or even the query module), and feeding them to the weblog entries tag with an embed variable. But if you just want to display the titles of the entries, then a custom query is the simplest.

I do need to use the weblog entries tag, so I may end up having to go that route.  I’ll probably go in that direction - I was just hoping for something a little more “built in”. 😊

I was looking for the same thing, found this post, bummed to find I’d have to do a query tag.

Then it occurred to me; since I only want to show entries not categorized in specific group (ID# 16), I put category_group=“not 16” and that did the trick.

I want to do the same thing. However, I have several different weblogs, each has a category called “events”. I am trying to dump all of the entries from EACH event category into a large calendar by entry title. That’s easy enough by using the category=”“.

Next, I have an actual weblog called EVENTS and another called ANNOUNCEMENTS. Those weblogs do not have categories. I want the entries within those weblog to also dump into the calendar.

I could just create a category under EVENTS and ANNOUNCEMENTS that is called events and announcements. However, I can see that causing some entry form issues for my client who may not be as savvy. Plus it’s one extra step.

I know I could use the category=“not…” tag but, I seriously have like 20-30 categories. To enter all of those in would be so annoying.

I don’t know anything about queries and don’t know how to make one.

Can anyone offer any help or direction?

    Thanks!
