Hi Everyone,
I still have some questions relating to EE’s commercial functionality.
I believe I read somewhere here in the forums that it was possible to run multiple forums on a single website, is this true?
To clarify I would like to seperate a website into multiple forums.
So that my site has forums dedicated to each make and model of a vehicle:
http://www.example.com/mazda
http://www.example.com/toyota
http://www.example.com/nissan etc…
I originally thought that the only way to do this would be to use the multisite manager extension.
Which brings me to another question. Does the multisite manager have a restriction of 3 websites before requiring an additional license? I was also under the impression that if you bought EE the Forum Module and the Multisite Manager I could set up as many websites as I wanted and that I only required additional licenses if I was to build a new website for a client or other 3rd party other than myself?
Finally with the multisite manager I understand it shares the same user tables. From a database perspective does this mean that all websites must share the same database with different prefixes?
Say
site1_
site2_
site3_ etc..
Or can you have say a central user database and have seperate databases that cater to the content on each website? My only concern is in terms of database backup and management. As large databases tend to be a pain to manage with phpmyadmin and at this stage I wouldn’t be using EngineHosting for my websites - although I think the idea is excellent I’ve already invested in hosting elsewhere at this stage.
Finally in relation to the gallery module. I have been told here: http://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/76805/
That its not possible to have a “multi user blog” like set up with the EE license. However all I really want to do is provide my website users with a way to adding images to their name. Is it in violation or is it possible to use the FlickR API so that users can add photos through FlickR and when someone views a user profile they can see images assoicated with that user?
Thanks,
Gavin.
