Has anyone used springloops.com or beanstalkapp.com as a means of version control? Why do you think these services are good/bad?

    Thanks!

I’ve used beanstalk and it is awesome - makes it easy to setup your own repsitory, you can integrate it with Twitter/Basecamp and a few other apps.

I definitely say give it a shot - one project is free and they don’t check for email addresses when you make another account, so you can have an unlimited number of solo products/two user accounts if you’d like.

We use Beanstalk to manage Digital Web, and it’s extremely easy to use. I tried Beanstalk as well, but couldn’t get it to do what I wanted (or rather, it didn’t work as I expected).

I’ve used SpringLoops and love it. It’s killer feature is the ability to deploy directly to an ftp site. The AJAX changelog browser is really handy too.

Seems to be reliable, have not had any downtime.

Assembla is good for svn and features. And it’s free space is not so bad as well (500mb).

I vote for Assembla, I have tried so many and all either are so restrictive or just don’t work very well. It has enough for you to try before you buy, or if its only a small project its more than enough.

Another great thing about it is if you have lots of little projects thats fine, your not restricted to 1 project.

Another one for Assembla.  It’s quite a pleasure to work with.

We have used unfuddle… which is really good http://unfuddle.com/

Another vote for unfuddle. Assembla’s free plan is very generous, but unfuddle is easier to use imo.

Wow! I didn’t even know that all these hosted services existed and I only happened on Springloops recently. Will check them out. Cheers all for posting these. I’d be interested for some brief comparisons for those who have used more than one of the above.

    Another vote for Assembla.

I’ve recently tried it works well lots of options for version control, and team ticketing and coordination. I’m using it with Mercurial, SVN, GIT are also available.

I think assembla is ok, but not great.  I dislike the fact that you have to use trac in order to use svn, I’d prefer to use the ticketing system that’s integrated with the ‘space’.

Apparently Beanstalk now supports FTP deployment.

They changed this back in march, you can now control assembla tickets with your commit message.  It’s surprisingly satisfying as well 😛 .

I have to take a look at this. They seem like really good & easy alternatives to an own setup

Here’s another suggestion: ASVCS (http://asvcs.com/). Its been mentionned in another thread a little while ago.

Its not really a pure CVS, but it does the job for simple project.
