We’re trying to change the current layout of our EE forum, and we’re frustrated by how difficult it is to really mold it to do what we need, so I’m reaching out to see if there’s a simple solution I’m overlooking…

We’d like the forum homepage to display two things:

    the most recent posts
    the most replied posts

these are easy enough to come by since we can just import them from the archives template. However, the posts information disappears when we visit the forum as a guest. Do these require you to be a member? or is there a permissions value I missed somewhere?

In addition to changing the homepage feel, we’d like to add a subnav to the side with a list of all the forums and their subcategories with a way for it to tell where you are. How hard is this to set up using the current forum? Is this something that’s going to have to take a lot of extra development to make happen?

    Thanks for all your help.

Moved up to how to since this is about a first-party module.

I’d recommend having a look at the Developer theme, which does what you want for the first part.

For the subnav, you’d have to modify the template and build that information.
