How do I limit the length of “URL Titles” as they are auto-generated in the control panel?

    A forum search was unsuccessful.

Thank you. Helpful post. Three thoughts.

    1. There already is a character limit on the URL Title; after pasting a long Title, it was truncated at 75 characters in the URL Title. Why not allow that length to be customized?

    2. I’d like to be able to rename “Title”—into something like “Brief title,” perhaps—so I can use a custom field name like “Excruciatingly-long vanity title”.

    2. I’d like control of how the URL is generated, including the ability to use an alternative field altogether. I used to use this.

So, I guess these are for the feature requests forum.

Ad 1: Why not indeed? Currently it’s hardcoded, but there’s no reason this couldn’t become a configurable option. Feel free to make the appropriate FR.

Ad 2: You can simply rename it in the language files. Just change “Title” to whatever you like.

For the last point you’d probably need an extension, though.
