I’ve made the switch to Mac and I am sooooooo happy.

Any serious developer should consider it their “next step” once you feel you’re getting comfortable where you are.

ANYWAY.. I’ve picked up a lot of great tips on this forum already for recommended apps. However, I need a good IRC client and I want to know what everyone is using.

    Thanks!

I don’t know but I installed Colloquy as GSV recommended and it is excellent!

Congratulations beyondCiv, I’m almost coming up to my first year with a Mac, its grrrrr-eat!

My only gripes have been the lack of a delete key and hash key, but I suppose you can’t have your cake and eat it.

I am right now on X-Chat Aqua.  I know the program hasn’t been updated in over a year, but it offers good python and perl scripting for me.

*checks the website* Hmm…seems that it might be updated at some point now.  We’ll see if that ends up happening.

Yeah, getting used to using Function-Delete to do the good-ol delete is taking some getting used to.

I use “home” and “end” a LOT and now that I don’t have them on my MBP keyboard I have to get used to using command-left-arrow and command-right-arrow

That is my biggest gripe… I refuse to use an external keyboard because then I won’t be able to do anything on this one when I’m in an airport or on the road, etc…

re: home and end keys, most native cocoa apps use the standard emacs keybindings, so home is ctrl+a, end is ctrl+e

and you can find # by hitting alt+3 (on my UK MBP anyway)

Colloquy is definitely the way to go, as previously mentioned

At work, I use a G5 with a Microsoft wireless keyboard (slow cannibals end up with Dell keyboards).  Apparently, I thought it would be a good idea to swap whatever the two bottom left keys are when I first started working there, so now I have bunches of fun switching from OSX there, to OSX with an Apple keyboard, to Linux, and even to Windows now and then.  App launcher in Linux uses Super (Windows) + Space.  In OSX it takes “Control” + Space.  In Windows, it’s Alt + Space.  At work, I use Photoshop and at home I use GIMP… yeah, keyboard shortcuts sometimes have very unexpected results when I mix them up!
