I have a table and when I put a {field name} in my html code, IE generates it with tags whereas Firefox does not.  How do I get rid of those in IE?

    Hi Lynn,

There shouldn’t be any difference between what IE generates and what Firefox generates although IE does seem to mess up everyone’s lives at some point somewhere along the line!!! 😉

If you want the content of the field spat out with nothing else surrounding it then you will need to ensure that your custom {field name} has its formatting option set to None. Check out the part called Default Text Formatting in the ExpressionEngine documentation which describes this in a little more detail.

If you are changing from one of the other two formats to None do ensure that you tick the check-box that will appear at the bottom of the page before submitting the change so that any previously entered data is re-formatted to take this into consideration.

Let us know how that goes for you?

Again this probably won’t be IE doing this although I would like to blame IE for absolutely everything that goes wrong in the world if that was possible!! 😉

    Hope that helps a bit.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

All your code is generated by EE, and it would not differe from browser to browser (which does not mean, that every browser necessarily displays it the exact same way.)

In your case, I recommend trying to use formatting “None” instead of “XHTML” for your custom field.

Is that not what I just said 😉

I suppose. But, you know, when I started my reply, I didn’t see yours. If you check the timestamps, we’re only three minutes apart, and I’m not the world’s speediest typer 😊

Actually, I blame tabbed browsing. I open a dozen or so tabs, and work on them one by one, without reloading them again.

Aha, will let you off then! 😉

You could get a hand-speed typing accessory like I have. Basically I speak out the words I want and a little bird pecks at the keyboard for me typing the words a la Flintstones style!! 😉

    Best wishes,

Thanks everybody, I’m finding that little NONE, really does make a difference.  And yes, I did a view source in both firefox and IE and don’t you know, if you don’t have it set to NONE, IE wraps the fieldname content in tags.  Isn’t it great to have IE to blame all our live’s frustrations on?

Well I like to try and blame IE for everything and I do mean everything but when our cats make a mess of the place it is getting much more difficult now to blame it on Microsloth as much as I would like to try! 😉

Glad it’s all working for you now though.

    Best wishes,

    Mark
