Sounds correct to me. Its telling of a past habit.

No, verb tense consistency between “sat” and “wondering” - here’s a quick article from Purdue on the subject.
I would have written this sentence as:
I often sat around the house and wondered what our home electronics’ internals looked like.

Thanks for the help, decided to scrap that sentance anyway since it was kinda lame (for a cover letter)
