I’ve started getting these dialog boxes (image attached) when I browse to the EE forums. I’ve never had these before and I get them whether I’m logged in to the forums or not. I ignored the box the first time and I could view the forums no problem but they keep appearing.

Is this a feature or is something amiss?

By the way, this sort of coincided with us moving house and getting a new cable internet connection, although it only started a few days after that connection.

Hm- me neither.  Is it just on safari or can you tell?  And- any particular areas it crops up?  Will give the crew a ‘heads up’, just to see.

Tim does that happen to occur when browsing the forum feeds?  We use HTTP Auth for some of the forums, so your feed reader will ask you to log in if you subscribe to the full forum feed so it can determine which forums to display for you.  There aren’t any other situations that you should be receiving an HTTP Auth dialog.

Robin, I just browsed to here without the dialog popping up. Tried in Camino - no dialog. Will try Firefox later today. Also, no box on IE on my work PC

Derek, I don’t generally use the feeds, but I will test them at home.

The only other thing I’ve changed is I changed the default password on my new cable modem (control panel login and also changed wpa to wep authentication as I was having trouble with wpa). That’s it.

Any other ideas? Is it possibly something malicious? It certainly looks authentic.

I’d check your subscribed feeds in Safari.  Is there any chance you might have just accidentally clicked the RSS link in the address bar, or the feed links at the bottom of the page?

The dialog box hasn’t appeared during thi session. Derek, I’m not subscribed to any feeds, according to my bookmarks. Unless I’m mistaken, I would still have to bookmark the feed to subscribe to it wouldn’t I?

Yes it would need to be bookmarked to be subscribed.  I’m leaning towards a one-off accidental mouseclick or keyboard combo to access the RSS as the most plausible answer.
