I have been looking through the features list and don’t see any references to single sign-on authentication. Is it possible to add Expression Engine to an existing site (say on a sub-domain) with existing user database and its own registration process and enable single sign-on via cookies or some other module or add-on with the extra authentication step being completely transparent to the user?

Thanks in advance for any info.

Hi, webbie - welcome to the forums!

Every system is different so there is no out of the box way to do this. However, you may be able to build an extension to help this along.  You can find the development documentation for that here. =)

Unfortunately I am new to PHP so developing an extension is not on a table for me.

Hey Developers! Any thoughts on how much work it is? Who wants to write a single sign-on extension?

    Basic Info:
Extension that allows to authenticate a user based on a presense of a cookie (say defined in a config file) that is set on the existing site and either auto-logs in or auto-registers and then logs in the user into community site based on cookie value(s). Registration URL is specified in a config file so the original ULR is replaced so the user always registers via the parent site.

Details: Cookie would have key-value pairs for whatever the basic required info is for the registration except for password (email, username, etc).

I am sure this extension would have a solid commercial value and would be worth licensing, not to mention open up opportunities for the Expression Engine itself.

If you would like to hire someone for this, you’d be best to look at the Pro Network or post on our Job Board =)

I don’t think I want to (or can afford to) absorb the cost for something that would be so highly reusable for many people, so I was just challenging developers to write and add an extension offered for a licensing fee that I would most certainly consider paying.

I will probably repost the info on the other board as well, thanks!

Im also looking for this function, and am willing to pay for it.
