I just came across this post in my newsreader:

    http://wordpress.com/blog/2008/01/28/introducing-prologue/

A wordpress template that creates a Twitter-like interface, useful for internal conversations and private group messages.

I thought this is something that could be implemented even more powerfully in EE as a group mini-weblog with a SAEF, when you need an alternative to the forum. Possibly.

Wondered if anyone had implemented anything like this?

No, but it’s a standard weblog with a single custom field and just a pretty-fied template. No big deal to implement - quite straightforward. =)

Yes thanks Lisa I’m aware of that 😉 Just thought it was good to share the possibilities. Someone’s been suggesting a shoutbox to me for a project i’m working on, but I think a ‘twitter-style’ private eeblog for task discussions would almost certainly be better.

I think that would be pretty cool, Matt - I just want to make sure no one thinks that this is some sort of voodoo that needs its own module or some such.  =)

Personally, I would not even use a weblog for this, just a weblog entry as the comment form seems ideally suited for this task, especially since the Comment module is lighter than the all powerful Weblog module juggernaut.

FWIW - I’ve done this as Paul suggests (albeit it was back a couple of years and with pMPro).  It worked well - a new post for new issues and then commenting.

    Less Twitter-like, more Basecamp message-ish.

Ultimately it failed because the Project Manager couldn’t get out of her email and preferred to maintain/resend a Excel sheet with issues (*shudder*).

What’s funny is that this is essentially what Forums were in pMachine Pro too.

I always thought Prolog was a recursive programming language. 😊

Yes, of course. The minimalist approach. Like this very much. Thanks for the ‘reductionist’ perspective. Hammers, nuts, and all that…

It would be rather easy as well to make a module that’s more suited for non-connected small-sized status messages, without the weight of a weblog entry’s metadata, and without the breaking up of statuses into a post/comment model.  Overall, the point is, this isn’t anything new, and yes ExpressionEngine is just as well, perhaps better because of its natural flexibility, suited than Wordpress to mimic this functionality, as are many other applications that allow molding of both your presentation and data storage.  Can’t say that I’m shocked that the general net media is hyping it as some fresh new thing though.
