    Hi All,

I currently have a template that points to an xml template that pulls a list of images from particular gallery category. I then use Slide Show Pro to display all the images in the category.

Is it possible to set this dynamically without having to create an xml for each entry. I’ve used the gallery cats plugin which allows me to specify this but I would like a more out of the box way solution. Is there an association method I don’t know about? Has anyone done this sort of thing?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks.

Mod Edit: Moved to the How To forum.

You lost me a bit- but when I’ve setup dynamic xml for similar stuff, I just use one xml template, stick a tag on it (often the query tag- but no reason you’re restricted to that)- then let EE’s dynamic urls do their thing.  Just vary up the url- i.e., a different category specified for example, and you get a different xml.

Does that make any sense for what you’re doing?

Thanks Robin. Yeah for now I’ve used your Gallery Categories extension to list all of the categories in my gallery then use that category id with the xml eg. “gallery.xml/C4” to pull the images. This allows me to specify images for each entry. Maybe I am just being too idealistic. I would have liked to have related weblog categories with gallery categories but without an extra field referencing either I think it’s too complex. Especially when you cannot use (to my knowledge) category names instead of category id’s eg. “C4” with gallery templates eg. “gallery.xml/my_category”.

I’ve looked at Gallery Extend 2 but there is no way to associate a gallery category. A pop-up menu is essential for novice users and cuts down the margin for error. So I won’t be using that.

Your extension seems to be the best option at the moment (it has actually saved my life). This issue keeps cropping up for me and I find the Gallery extremely limiting. Better integration is essential. I hope EE2 supports this. To me the Gallery shouldn’t require a hack or a work around to function this way. The logical use of the gallery is to display a categorized collection of images in a weblog entry.

    Thanks for you input.

    Tim
