Is there a way to make the {location} field required on the comment form?

    Hiya,

I’ve never actually used the comments system yet and don’t know if there is a built in method already but I always use Live Validation for all form validations nowadays. Just took a look in the docs for the comments system and I think you would be able to get this to work with it if it is just spitting out a normal web form.

Please don’t hold me to that though!! 😊

    Hope that helps.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

That link was broken, Mark. Could you give us that Live Validation link again, please?

    Thanks!

Right- location isn’t available as a required field in EE.  To make it required would take an extension (or a feature request).  However, the js option looks good as a fall back.

Thanks man.  Live Validation looks cool.  It’s too bad EE requires a third party for this… just makes the page heavier.

    Robin:
Thanks for the input.  I’ll have to submit my laundry list of feature requests.  Having shelled out $250 for this thing, I’m pretty disappointed at the lack of customization within the module parameters.  Would it be possible to create a custom field and make it ‘required’?

    Hi there

I think you just have to remember that there are a lot of CMS systems out there and none of them can say that they do everything. EE is no different. It does what it says it does and does that exceptionally well. It also does a whole heap more that isn’t documented which makes it exceptionally capable in my eyes.

With some CMS systems you can expect to pay near to $100,000 / £50,000 and still not get everything you need. For $250 you are getting an exceptionally capable system which can usually (through the use of extensions, plugins and modules) be made to do just about anything you need.

Don’t be disappointed, I’m not. True there are things I would love to see in EE but not everything can be added into a system ever. Imagine if every single CSS frame-work and every single Javascript and Flash deployment technique were placed into a CMS. Add on to that every type of admin panel you can think of. The system would very very quickly become severely bloated and the upload to your web-server would be enormous.

EE is very very light-weight yet does an amazing large amount of work for you out of the box. Well worth the money in my eyes.

    Best wishes,

    Mark
