I am having some weird discussion forum install issues… as in the forum does not appear when hitting the address: (http://www.globalexpanse.com/ee/index.php/forums/). I had to use force query string and settings due to my crappydaddy hosting.

Any ideas on how to debug this?

I have followed all install instructions.

    Thanks everyone.

    Also for reference:
    Currently running EE 1.6.1
Currently trying to run Forum Module 2.0.0

Looks like the query string is required for the site to work- so http://www.globalexpanse.com/ee/index.php?/forums is what you’ll need to go with on that host.  Unless there’s a sneaky way to avoid it.  But- does everything work when force queries is turned on?  From a quick surf through, it looks like it does?

yes it does. I had issues before… so had to enable the query strings as per the support tips.

I remember when i first installed the forums and didn’t have debugging time (tried to enjoy holidays) I thought I still received the query error when the site worked. But now the address just resolves the default page.

But yes, with query string enabled… the site works.. via searching, etc.

Unless someone knows a way to turn off query strings but still get GoDaddy to work. I know there was something posted… a small workaround, but it didn’t work for me. I used the following as my reference:

might have an idea… this will be interesting…

I recently had GoDaddy start using PHP5….. this might accounts for some issues but may allow me to use workaround.

    Let me try…

nope… still need to have qtype =2 and force query strings to get the site for function.

    Anyone have any ideas?

Hi, Chad - some hosts just require the forced query strings, I’d recommend emailing that article to GoDaddy and seeing what they say.  We can’t advise on server setup though. =/

Thanks, I have contacted them. But would this be the reason the discussion forums do not work? There isn’t fix?

Chad, my understanding from the rest of the thread is that the forums do work if you include the query string - is that not correct?

sorry that is not correct. The rest of the site works… however when trying to access the forums.. it simply shows the default index.php page.

There is an address above which shows the link expression engine configured.

I am fine with the query string if I can get the forums to load.

    Thanks

Ah, well none of the inner pages are working, see the comments page?

    http://www.globalexpanse.com/ee/index.php?/site/comments/getting_started/

It’s not showing a comment form, which is an indicator that none of the inner pages work. Actually, have you tried with the various qtype options for index.php?

good catch, I must have missed that. I have tried with a qtype of 2 as per the knowledge base. I will try with setting of 1 if you think that will work.

qtype of 2 however appeared tied to forceing query strings.

wait. sorry was debugging things. Everything is correctly configured with qtype=2 and the inner pages work. Still forums seem to be broke.

I hate being that nagging person of the day, there is just a project I wanted to get off the ground today.
