Provide email updates of content to paying customers

2 questions, actually:

Does anyone know of a way to automatically send email updates of new content? I need to be able to send updates daily and user should be able to first select various criteria from a set list of options to define which content updates they receive (one category only, all categories, one custom field only, etc.).

Also, does anyone know of a way to connect this feature to Simple Commerce to allow readers to pay for their subscriptions?
