I recently started a new web developer job at an organization that is Windows-only, at least for its workstations (stubborn IT dept). At previous jobs, and at home for that matter, I have become accustomed to Textmate and BBEdit on Mac OSX. I miss working in OSX so much now.

I’ve been told I will be provided with Homesite, but that doesn’t hold a candle to Textmate.

Can anyone recommend something in Windows for an XHTML/Javasript/PHP/CodeIgniter developer? I know this has been brought up before, but I’d appreciate an update.

    Thanks a bunch,

    Paul

I use PSPad. Cheaper (free) and more features than TextMate and BBEdit.

The IT department probably aren’t stubborn, there are reasons companies use Windows.

I don’t think you post in right forum…. But it’s not my bussiness

You can use E Editor and Intype. Very closer to Textmate. Intype is free, but i didn’t see any updates for months…

Wow, Intype looks very promising.  Thanks for the suggestion.

Apologies for posting in the wrong forum. Was The Lounge a better place to bring up this type of discussion?

Really do give HTML Kit a go, fast free and if you like it you can upgrade to the more feature packed HTML Kit Tools.

Has full support for everything a web developer would need

I personnaly love jEdit which can be used on any platform that has Java. Be sure to install some plugins! Unless you have a simple notepad.

Many developers, such as myself prefer Notepad++

    You’d grow into it.

For Mac, definitely check out Panic’s Coda, arguably the best editor in Mac.

phpdesigner2008 is also a great tool, but it’s not free.

Komodo Edit is nice, free and pretty flexible.

Apatana  is a pretty decent code editor. Great if you’re going to code javasript.
    It’s based on Eclipse.
