I’ve been canvasing this one all over the net for a while, so it will be interesting to see what people here think…

What license(s) do you guys prefer to release your code under; GPL, LGPL, BSD, MIT, Custom, Other? And why?
On the contrary, when you are looking at using an Open-source product, do you have same/similar preferences or does it not matter?

i like GPL because it is widely used and give all rights to my users also i make some custom licenses when i want my scripts to have a comment saying my name for example. when i use a open source product it depends whats the use i am going to give it, for example if i need to make something out of it i prefer GPL but if i am just planning to use it just like it is i don’t really care about the license.

I generally use GPL or BSD.

I’ve got a few libraries which I license under the BSD license, because I bundle them into applications which the customer may or may not want to open source.  BSD gives me a well accepted way of saying “do whatever you like with this code, change it if you want, but don’t stop me from using the version I gave you.

I use GPL for entire applications where I might want to ensure the code remains open source.

I’m beginning to lean towards GPL by default though.

    Jim.
