I have manually entered a member into the database with group id of 7. However the EE template tag {group_id} is always showing 3. I double checked the database to make sure I got it right but might still be missing something.

    Can anyone help?

Hi, atlealtha - what do you mean by manually entered?  Did you use the “Register a new user” in the CP? Or directly modify the database?

    Directly modified the database.

I would recommend removing what you’ve done/restoring from a backup, and using the CP’s method to register a new member, and see if the problem still occurs.

It’s working fine when I add through the User CP.

That would be expected - is there some reason you are directly modifying the database?

It’s part of an e-commerce process. It takes their email as the username and generates a random password. Person purchases, gets added as a customer, and is e-mailed the password. It’s not a “signup with us” type of process, so I’m not using EE’s registration form.

Ok, I’m going to move this up to the how-to forum; unless you are using a custom extension? In which case I can move it there.  Let me know.

In the meantime, you’ll want to see wiki:// Import Members
