Lisa suggested I look at the ExpressionEngine demo at http://expressionengine.com/cp_demo.

Unfortunately it seems to log me out as quickly as I get logged in. I have a few times made it into the demo but then as soon as I try to do anything I get logged out. Most of the time I just end up back at the login screen.

I have had a similar issue with TYPO3. The security in TYPO3 can be set so that if a users IP address changes it logs out. I don’t understand the technical side of this but when I change that setting it prevents the problem. I think this might be something to do with the ADSL network in South Africa doing something odd!

Does ExpressionEngine have a similar security feature?

    Thanks,
    Simon

Yes- I do believe it’s a firewall issue with S.Africa.  Basically- EE normally runs with secure forms turned ‘on’- which means it does a check to make sure that the ip that loaded a page is the same one that submits the form.  And if the ip changes between load/submit?  It won’t pass the secure forms check.  Run into it sometimes with AOL as well.  However- it is a nice security measure for reducing spam bot havoc.  (And you can turn secure forms ‘off’- in case you were wondering.)

Hm- one option would be to try a quick install of ‘Core’- where you could then turn secure forms ‘off’.  And I’ll give sales a ‘heads up’ on the thread to see if there’s any possible workaround with the demo.

    Hey Simon.

We’ve had reports from several users from South Africa about this.  Sorry about that.  Your best options to play with EE at this point is either to download the free EE core and install on your own server, or go for the $10 demo where we can get around the login problem for you.

Both of these options can be accessed at http://expressionengine.com/sales/try/.  Let us know if we can help you any further!

Thanks for the responses - but the forum also seems to be doing something funny and not letting me post. Lets see what happens here…
