There seems to be a disparity between administration levels in our installation of Expression Engine (build 20070815).

If a user goes to Admin › Weblog Administration › Category Groups › Category Management they are able to successfully create a new category for a given weblog. However, if they go to Publish › {weblog} › Categories, then click on the ‘Edit Categories’ link, the resulting popup window indicates the following: “You are not authorized to access this page”.

I believe this may be a bug in the site duplication code (we are running the MSM), as users are able to edit categories via both methods in the site we used as a template for other sites.

I checked the Member Group privileges for the associated Member Group, and can verify that the members have ‘Can edit and add new categories’ and ‘Can delete categories’ set to ‘Yes’.

bjsteiger, in the section of member preferences for setting up weblog permissions, what do you have set for add/edit categories?

Also, do you have the correct settings here:  Admin ›  Weblog Administration ›  Category Groups ›  Edit Category Group?

Can edit and add new categories -> Set to ‘yes’ for the appropriate member group in all sites.

Under ‘Admin › Weblog Administration › Category Groups › Edit Category Group’, the appropriate group shows up in both the ‘Can Edit Categories’ and ‘Can Delete Categories’ lists.

I’m going to need a few minutes to set up a duplication to see if I can replicate this on my end.  To this end, can you post screenshots of the member group preferences experiencing this? That way I can get an exact replica.

However, before we do that, I need to ask you to upgrade to the latest version and see if that helps.

And you said this is only happening on one Site in an MSM installation, but not others?  The one it is working on is the “original” site and the others are.. duplicates? imports?

Unfortunately because the site in incredibly custom I’m afraid that will not be an easy task to upgrade.

On your question about the original vs the other - the other sites are duplicates. Which screen do you want the screenshot from?

I’ll need the screenshots from the member group preferences for the Site throwing the unauthorized error.

I will warn you: I am testing this in the 1.6.1.  If I can’t replicate it, then you’ll need to update to get things working.  We do not support older versions.

    Screenshot is attached.

This only happens when you go to Publish > _weblog_ > Categories > Edit Categories (and the pop-up window appears).  It does not happen when you go to Edit Categories via the Admin tab.

My apologies, that was not the screenshot I needed.  I need screenshots of the pages where you’ve set the access up, so that I can see what you’ve done and attempt to re-create.

    Thank you!

You mean under ‘Admin ›  Members and Groups ›  Member Groups ›  Edit Member Group’, correct?  Which pages from there (all of them)?

    Thanks!
