Blank Page Upon Preview (but not Submit) When Using Stand Alone Entry Form (SAEF)

    I know this has been beaten nearly to death in the forums but I cannot seem to overcome this problem.  When trying to preview using the SAEF I end up with a completely blank page.  The first thing I did was remove the .htaccess file I was using (which removed the index.php and template group information from the URIs) and inserted “index.php” (no quotes) back into the appropriate field in the control panel.  I tested that this was working fine by navigating around through my other pages.  Still, the SAEF Preview did not work.  After that, I did a straight copy and paste from the docs’ SAEF example code into a new template.  I modified the first line so that it reflected the weblog and templates I was using as such:

    {exp:weblog:entry_form weblog="hekawi" return="hekawi/test_saef" preview="hekawi/test_saef"}

    The rest I left as is.  The template group is “hekawi” (no quotes) and the template is “test_saef”.  The weblog is named “hekawi” and I am logged in as a Super User, so I certainly have access to the weblog.  Even after all of that I still get the blank page during preview.  If I hit submit, the form re-loads (with the fields blank and ready for a new entry) and the weblog has the new entry as expected.

    I am using EE 1.6.0 Build 20070918 (the latest as far as I can tell).

    Hm- let’s just see what happens if you point the preview to the page the saef is on- and put the preview variables inside the existing saef….

    {exp:weblog:entry_form weblog="default_site" return="hekawi" preview="hekawi/saef"}

    {preview}
    <h1>{title}</h1>

    {display_custom_fields}

    {/preview}

    etc…

    Any luck that way?

    I’m sorry; I wasn’t clear: the example code from the docs site has the preview on the same page as the saef and I left it this way.  The name of the template is “test_saef” (there’s only the one template I’m testing right now) and the name of the template group is “hekawi”.  So, in short, the template that the saef is on is already pointing back to itself.  I’ve attached all relevant templates so that you can see them in their entirety.  Thank you for looking at this.

    I’m not replicating using an exact copy of your saef template- just tweaked it:

    {exp:weblog:entry_form weblog="reading" return="site/test" preview="site/test"}

    Looks like you’re current, so my first bet would be an htaccess issue- second bet would be an extension.  Are you using either?

    I had already removed the .htaccess file; however I disabled all of my extensions and it worked!  I turned them back on and disabled the Form Tag Encoder extension (seemed the most likely culprit) and it still worked.  Enabling it broke the template again, so I’m sure that was it.  I’ll look to see if there’s a newer version of this extension (was using 1.0.2) and if not I’ll see if I can provide some feedback to the author.  Thanks again for your help, Robin; I never would have thought to look there.

    Ah- the big hint was that it posted ok- otherwise I’d have also been thinking some kind of server funkiness.  And after that?  I was out of ideas- so glad you narrowed it down.
