While I like the ability to see how many visitors are checking out each page (as well as the site as a whole) within EE, one thing that has been frustrating myself and my clients lately is that EE counts OUR hits as well (hits that, well, we don’t want to count).  After updating a template, I want to be able to see it live; likewise, my clients tend to check out their sites after making new posts.  I thought it would be great to duplicate a site’s template group so that myself and my clients could use this group when we need to view the site; this way our hits would be kept in a separate “pile” and could easily be zeroed out.  My question is this: is there a way to disable hit counting per-template?

    Hi, Michael,

It would require hacking to do this; however, as a better solution, you might consider an actual analytics package.  Many of us use Mint for this, and you can set that to ignore any of your own visits; or Google Analytics, which probably has a similar method.

If you’d like to explore the option of hacking, I can move this up to how-to, let me know!

I think I’ll skip the hacking (since I plan to do this on client’s sites), but thanks for the suggestions for alternatives!  I will, however, put in a feature request in the appropriate forum…

I think I just found a simple workaround for this: I created a new template group and embedded the index page of the site’s template group in it; since embedded templates don’t count their hits when they’re embedded, then the user has to only zero out one template when they’re done viewing their site instead of several (or dozens).
