    hi,

Which templates exactly are searchengines spidering?

As far as I know a searchengine spiders the index-page and everything on it, but does it actualy ´follow´ the hyperlinks on that page so in theory every following page is being spidered?
I particulary think of the content of (EE-)photogalleries, which isn´t (in my case) published on the index-template but through a link.

And if so, should every template say in its meta information something like

    <meta name="robots" content="all" />

    thanks for your help,

    Robert

    Yes, thats what spiders do.

so every following template should have meta data like <meta name=“robots” content=“all” /> ??

    Thanks!

Well - you can certainly include that easily enough.  Whether the robots are actually going to obey it or not is another story.

IMHO use a robots.txt file if there are things you want to exclude - otherwise just code and link your page normally and the robots/spiders will index it.

    😊 Back again…

Than how are pictures in an EE-gallery indexed?
    - I see that the titles of a pictures function automatically as alt-text… Usefull for SEO?
    - I see that the category-template, to which I link from my indexpage, lists all the pictures as follows: http://www.hollanditus.nl/index.php/ig-travels/image_full/173/ . Useless for SEO?
    - how can I add in the category-template meta-data related to each picture?
    - in the full-image template I added in the head an extra custum_field for keywords, which works fine.

So the bottumline is: how do I SEO the gallery?

Photo pages are indexed like any other web page - by following links and indexing text content.

    Write good titles.
    Write good descriptions.
Take pictures people are searching for.

Meta tag keyword fields are worthless.

It’s easy to wonder how to accurately fill-in alt text for images.
Keep in mind that for a page to validate all image tags in the body of a page should have alt-tags.
You probably shouldn’t think in terms of SEO here but what text is relevant, accurate and usable for your sites users.
Thinking in terms of keywords doesn’t hurt, neither does naming the images with those same accurate terms.
It’s really about accuracy, and not about trying to spam the SEO keywords into the page, but it’s a fine line really.
Accurately filling in all of the meta tags and information completely is really the key to success.
