I create a new custom weblog field:

    Keys1

    with dropdown list populate manually…

    Then

I create another custom weblog field:

    Keys2

and populating the data from Keys1…

Then I tested, by publishing a new weblog, and the keys1 has its data in it, but keys2 won’t populate keys1 data… why is that happening?

larrya121, my apologies, but I’m not quite following the workflow.  Are you just copying and pasting your custom drop-down information into two custom fields?

Also, what version and build are you on?

I understand that you created a custom field, of type drop-down, and manually entered values, for KeyA.

I am not following what you have done for KeyB.  Can you open up that custom field and let me know the settings that you chose for that field, what you expected them to do, and what you actually want them to do?

Oh I’m sorry i’m using build 20070815… I was taking my time how to take screenshot using the new apple keyboard, and I found Snipping tools in vista was real handy…

anyway I included the screenshot what I’m trying to achieve…

    It’s cmd+shift+4.

Can you screenshot the entire square for the custom field with all of the details? From what you have there I’m just not sure what I’m seeing. =)

Åh, my apologies. That’s not the screen I meant, but rather in Admin -> Weblog Administration -> Custom Weblog Fields -> KeyB. =)

Well you can sleep and we can pick this up another time if you’d like…

But, I do need to ask you to make a much larger screenshot of that, or not scale it down so much.  I’m pretty close to blind, and I can’t see any information on that; I can barely recognize the screen. =)

Uhm, about the screenshot, I thought I’m only allowed 800x600 pixels…

Ah, ok, Yes - but you can get it bigger by making your browser window smaller so that you can post more information in the screenshot.  It’s ok.  I think I see what is happening.

What you were expecting, I think, is that the drop-down would populate from the information that you entered for the drop-down in Key A, is that correct?

But that isn’t what happens.  The way this works is that you’ll create a lot of entries, and in the process, populate information in KeyA.  KeyB will then supply a drop-down of all the information in that custom field from your previous entries.

So if you go create an entry and fill in KeyA - that information will show up, after you submit of course, in KeyB.

If you want both dropdowns to share the same options, you need to just copy and paste them over, though in the long-run, you might be better off looking at Relationships =)

    Make sense?

I get your point, but why there’s an option called “Populate the menu from another custom field” which I then ofcourse chose the Keys1 field data…

Because it is populating from another custom field - but from the contents of that custom field in other weblog entries.  So if you have 15 entries, and the custom field is filled out in all of those entries, you can then choose any of that data to be used in your other custom field.

    I hope that makes sense.
