Just wondered why the forum RSS feed has suddenly thrown up an authorisation required box when viewing through a browser based feed reader (sage in FF)?

I haven’t seen this, but the Atom feed hasn’t updated for me in NetNewsWire or Newsgator since 8/17.

What URL are you using for your RSS feeds?

Yes, you will need to authenticate, you should be able to do this with most up-to-date browsers. If you put your login information when prompted, the software should have an option to keep from reprompting for it. I’d recommend allowing the reader to store that information and you won’t have a further problem with this.
Thanks!

Alrighty. Unsubscribing and resubscribing in NetNewsWire did the trick for me (It’s necessary to do that or else the software won’t ask for authentication where it wasn’t required before. It just thinks the feed is dead.)
Just out of curiosity, though, why do I have to authenticate to read the syndication feed? I don’t have to be logged in to read the forum, just to post or respond.

Its related to a private forum that we keep for the pro-network members. The feed goes through all the forums, and even though those posts aren’t part of the feed, the request for authorization remains.
Sorry for the inconvenience, but its to enable us to serve everyone better.

Gotcha. Thanks Derek and Lisa for the help.
If anything, this points up a flaw in the reader software. If a feed suddenly requires authentication, I should get a prompt.
*wanders off to make a feature request elsewhere*

Just to clarify Derek Allard’s statement here, if you are authorized for forums that are using HTTP Auth protection, they will show up in the overall forum feed for you.
