I’ve been experiencing what feels like automated spam in my forums. I came across this recently, automatically spamming blog forums, is it possible that this can be used against EE installed forums? Does the blacklist protect against this?

Man, they really have no shame at all, do they.  I don’t see EE listed and I’m not entirely sure how to know for certain without actually testing it.  And even then, you could get into a tweak war.  They say it works on VBulletin, which has some solid security on it.  How true, or what security settings this is true under, I don’t know.

I’ll point the crew at this thread, see if they have any comments.  It’s a good thing for them to check out if they haven’t already (wouldn’t surprise me if they have).

Didn’t see anything about it on that link, but wouldn’t email verification for membership still defeat this?

I would think so (secure forms might help too)- but without seeing all of their features, it’s hard to know if they’ve got a workaround for it.  But I don’t want to search it out- those types of sites can have all sorts of stuff on them.  I’ll let the crew and their trusty Macs dig into the specifics!

Years ago I thought of the Internet as the Wild West, a sort of frontier area where opportunities abound, along with inherent dangers. Now it’s a more civilized place, but still with inherent dangers. I now think of it more like the Prohibition era: life is good, but there are still bad guys out there running rum across and bootleg beer across our IP addresses.  😖
