    Hi there.

Some other CMSs I’ve worked with allow you to “link” a text file on disk to a template, so that you don’t have to do all your editing in a textarea (it’s very nice).  Does/can EE do this?

    Thanks.

    Yes.

    Thanks!

But, there is already a directory “templates” in my system directory, with a index.html in it. Is this some kind of default preparation from the EE installation?
(or did I fiddle with things while experimenting some stuff)

If so, then creating another map like the example “template_files” from the documentation is not a good idea.

    Prepare a directory

You must prepare a directory/folder on your server that will contain the saved Template files. Most people will create their directory inside the normal system/ directory. For example, if you want your directory named “template_files” then you would create a system/template_files/ directory on your server. http://expressionengine.com/docs/templates/flat_file_templates.html

    Cheers!

Yes, you can use that. When you go into your CP, you can chose the directory to save to. I suppose the documentation is lightly inaccurate at this point.
