Trying to find a module that allows a shortened blog intro on another page

Hi, I’ve set up a few blogs using EE and am looking for a module/feature that I know is there but I cannot find it.

As normal, I have my blogs set up as “/blog/” or something similar based off my .com domain. I’m looking to add a div on the /index page of my main site that offers the blog title and 40 or so words out of the blog… Basically a teaser to get people to click into the blog and see when something new has been posted.

I found this feature once about a year ago but didn’t have the time to implement it back then. Now I cannot find the module/feature/whatever anywhere.

Any tips that lead me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I think I found what I need but I cannot get it to work. What is the default database prefix for EE?

Also, how do I find the “weblog_id” for my blog?

Sorry for the repeated posts but I’m lost… I’m just learning PHP and have no idea what the hell these errors mean:

“Warning: main(): URL file-access is disabled in the server configuration in /home/content/a/n/c/ancientgamer/html/test.php on line 36

Warning: main(http://www.theancientgamer.com/reviewblog/config.php): failed to open stream: no suitable wrapper could be found in /home/content/a/n/c/ancientgamer/html/test.php on line 36

Warning: main(): URL file-access is disabled in the server configuration in /home/content/a/n/c/ancientgamer/html/test.php on line 36

Warning: main(http://www.theancientgamer.com/reviewblog/config.php): failed to open stream: no suitable wrapper could be found in /home/content/a/n/c/ancientgamer/html/test.php on line 36

Fatal error: main(): Failed opening required ‘http://www.theancientgamer.com/reviewblog/config.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/local/lib/php’) in /home/content/a/n/c/ancientgamer/html/test.php on line 36”

If you have a look at the “Quick Start Tutorial” in the EE Docs, it tells you exactly how to do this as a basic function of EE.

In the publish form, you have a {summary}, {body} and {extended} tag.

On your index page, the {summary} tag is your “teaser”, and the {body} tag gives you the main body page in the blog.

If you have a number of blogs, you can call the {summary} tag “teaser” from each blog onto your index page and the permalink then connects to the main page in whichever blog you have posted it.

You can do this by having a main template group with the template_group variable set to “” on your main index page so it pulls entries from every other blog template group.

In other words .. its not a module but a standard function of EE

Thanks. I’ll hunt down those quick start docs. I’ve been searching everywhere for something like that.

Yeah the word limit module is great. sometimes no matter how many times you tell people they will continually either not use the summary (so I made it required) or post way too much in it. 😊
