I am currently running 3 domains from my EE install. I’ve had this multisite setup running for about a year.
I’m on a dedicated enginehosting server.

I just upgraded from 1.5 to 1.6 which seems to be running fine.

    1. I downloaded the most recent version of MSM
    2. Installed Multiple site manager after carefully reading the instructions.
    3. Put the 3 files in their respective folders
    4. Enabled Multiple site manager in the CP
    5. Created a second site.
    6. Chose to duplicate with data.
    7. Made all the appropriate selections of the components I wanted to duplicate
    8. Clicked submit and got a blank screen.  No success dialogue - just white.
    9. In the CP, when I browsed to the new site the only data that was duplicated was 2 weblogs nothing else seemed to be duplicated though I had selected about 12 template groups.

And I had 2 of the approximately 6 weblogs I chose.
I’m able to run the two sites with MSM enabled.

I was using the latest version of FF on my mac.
    My system was turned off.

Can anyone shed any light on what might have happened?
Should I delete the new site and try again?

    Thank as always.

It almost sounds like it timed out partway through.  Wish we could have gotten some sort of error message.

When you created the sites- you ONLY duplicated info- no importing anything so that it’s only in the new sites?  I’d lean toward deleting and then running it again- but before doing so, I’d make a good backup of the database as it exists right now.  And I’d make sure that php errors are showing for superadmins.  If it borks again, it would tell us why.

Does that make sense- and confirm on the import/vs/duplicate issue before going ahead on it!

Yes, I only duplicated. No importing.

I don’t see any pattern in the 2 sections that were copied.
However no entries and no associated groups were copied with them.
And they are not the first 2 sections in the list.

So I will try this again with all debugging turned on.

It shouldn’t be timing out or having a memory issue based on what I could see.  But maybe…  How many entries are we talking about here?  Haven’t looked at the code, but I’m thinking that could be a factor.

I’m on enginehosting and had no troubles- they’ve got plenty of horsepower.  But if it happens again, definitely give a yell and we’ll dig in.

Robin, is this a physical space issue or php memory?
    Or what?

That’d be a PHP Memory Error.  EngineHosting doesn’t have a low memory limit.  I’ll need to look into this a bit more for you.

    Thanks Lisa.

I was trying to copy a total of about 2600 entries distributed over about 4 weblogs.

Hi, magder.  If you can submit a ticket to EngineHosting explaining the issue and that you need a temporary PHP memory boost to complete the import, then I’m sure that won’t be a problem.  You can reference this thread.  The problem is just that that amount of entries is going to take a large amount of memory that you normally would not need.

    Thank you. =)

Engine hosting increased the php memory to 128 mgs.

I ran the new site creation.

The system was able to copy most of the entries however I did not receive the success dialogue.
The browser window continued to run the process for about 40 minutes.
I found, though, that entries from 3 of 4 weblogs had copied to the new site.
It looked like all the templates copied as well.
It had missed about 1000 entries.

So I deleted the site and tried again.

This time it ran for a few seconds and I got a white screen with the below message:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 82 bytes) in /home/pmh4145/public_html/ouradio_html/ouko/db/db.mysql.php on line 363

Engine hosting suggested that I let you know. They did not offer to increase it further.
Does this mean I’m out of luck?
Is my site too large for this procedure?
Or is there a possible work around?
    Manual maybe?

    Thanks

magder, is there a particular reason that you need all the data duplicated?  You can still access weblogs across sites with the site= parameter, so I’d first question whether or not this is absolutely necessary.  It’s an extreme amount of data being tossed around, and you might ask if they can increase it further temporarily for this one operation, but I do not know if they will, nor how high they’d have to go for it to work.  It could be done manually, yes, but it’s rather crucial that it be done properly, so if that’s the route you end up going, I would strongly suggest hiring someone experienced with EE’s database structure.
