I asked a similar question before in another thread, but will repeat the question again, as our site needs have changed. can we use EE for the following:

    1. A site that features jobs and classifieds
    2. Users must be able to post jobs and classfieds
    3. Users must be able to login to a non-EE admin page (a membership page) from where they can create/edit/delete their own jobs or classfieds
    4. Site works currently with aMember membership software, which should be maintained
    5. Two types of user - employer type who can post any type of job or classified, and a general type who can only post a classified
    6. aMember manages paid subscriptions, for which presumably, we could create a 3rd type of user - current member. Non-current members could be 4th type etc.

As in point 3 - its important that users have their own membership page, where we could serve site updates, RSS feeds, special offers, news, etc, in addition to the listings of their job/classifieds postings.

I don’t know how much of this is ready out of the box with EE, but if not, is it possible to get an estimate of time it would take for a professional to create this for us, should we choose EE.

    1. Jobs and classifieds - yes
    2. User posting - yes
    3. I think this is possible using member persmissions (ie allowing them to edit/delete)
    4. I believe aMember already integrates with EE
    5. User types - yes you can set up different member groups, each with it’s own set of priviledges/permissions
    6. Yes you can create any number of member groups. I think aMember allows you to allow/deny access to whatever folders/directories?  You’d need to set up template groups to match each of your member types.

Your membership page for your news is also possible, it might want a bit of thinking to make it all work but it’s certainly do-able.

I’ve never used aMember, so can’t comment on it directly.  I do know that folks have integrated the two.

As for the rest- the big issue will be handling the payment processing.  If you’re using paypal only, the simple commerce module would meet your needs (sans aMember)- otherwise you’ll need to integrate aMember so that payment ties to member groups.

Once the above works to satisifaction?  The rest is fairly straightforward, but would need some customization- mainly for the individual member pages.  Not difficult stuff in general, though.  Depends a bit on how customized you’d want things to be.  But basically, you’d tie posting priveleges to member groups- and probably use the standalone entry form to allow members to post to weblogs.  Jobs and classifieds would be a weblog- probably 2 weblogs, since you want some members only to post in classifieds, other to post to both classifieds and jobs.

There’s isn’t a module that allows editing of posts via the frontend, but Solspace has a third party ‘form helper’ plugin that will allow you to do so.  Then you just need to construct a frontend interface where they can access their current entries for editing- or add new ones.

It’s definitely not ‘out of the box’, but it’s all very doable.  The aMember bits are the only part I’m not up on.  If you’re seriously looking for estimates on customization, you might consider posting to the job board with your requirements.  That’s the approach I’d take if I wasn’t up for customizing it myself.

    Make sense?

    Thanks bluedreamer and Robin.

aMember is important because many users have paid for a year up front, so it makes sense to retain aMember, otherwise simple commerce would indeed make more sense.

So, if as I read it, the only difficult thing is to create a membership page, where users can create/edit/delete their postings, how difficult are we talking? Is it worth giving it a go myself? (ideas how to start would be welcome)

Thanks - this is really useful.

So using this methodology, a property / realty site could be set up where users pay to advertise their own properties (in the same way they pay to add a classified ad to a site).

I’ll let you know once I’ve got something to show!

BTW - I totally LOVE EE!
