When building a site, how do you create & reorder menu items, and create static pages to attach to these, without having to write HTML?

Here are some ideas, all built pre EE 1.6 however so you might also want to look at the new native Pages module.  Order of the nav is dependent on how you specify the weblog entries tag - you can either go by date and tweak the publish date to change the order or alphabetically.  There are also some add-ons available for more custom entry ordering, but I’d suggest starting simple first.

You still will need to know HTML to build your templates—I’m assuming you knew that and meant once setup in EE you could publish new pages without creating additional HTML?

Well, that’s been pretty much been replaced by EE 1.6, I’d think.

There doesn’t seem to be a lot of ducumentation on the EE module, am I right?

Can you do 2 or more levels of navigation with the EE 1.6 module?
can you do sidebar links that match your static sections structure?

No, I’m referring to initial set up. I don’t know HTML. I need to know how to first create top level menu items, like FAQs, About Us, Download, etc, and then add pages to them. You say something about a Pages module. is that it? What’s the path to it in the control panel?

Honestly…if you don’t know HTML then you’re either going to need to learn it or find a developer to help you build the site.

There are a number of ways to build a static structure in EE, but at some point - no matter the route - you’ll need to create templates that mix EE code with HTML to produce what comes out on your site as pages.

“Pages” per se’ don’t really exist in a normal EE-powered site. EE uses posts from weblogs along with templates, EE code and HTML (and plugins/modules if need be) to create pages dynamically.

Thank you. That’s clear. I was hoping there was a point-and-click process as with other CMSs.
