I’m trying to get an idea of expected server waiting times when running EE on a shared server.

I have a couple examples of simple sites. Both of the tested pages only have a couple EE loops and have full template caching turned on.

The first is Media Temple gs, I’m getting a server wait time of around 340ms.
The other, on the Nexcess EEP 100 plan: I’m getting a server wait time of around 180ms.

With a cheap shared hosting plan is this as fast as you can get with EE or should I be exploring other options?

    Hi Chris,

This is not too bad. Without optimisation we usually see around 200ms.
    - If you are familiar with setting up a server (apache, mysql, ...), I’d recommend you to have a look at Digital Ocean. Their server are SSD powered and they have a data center in all major markets.

    Cheers

So you’re getting a .34 second load time?

No not total load time, server wait time before resources start to load.

I’d love to know how to optimize my environment for wait time.  I put a simple hello-world file on my Windows web server and it’s wait time is about 76ms.  I put the same simple HTML code in an EE template and it has a 795ms wait time.  The same issue happens locally using WAMP, so I assume it’s not the server but something to do with EE/MySQL.

Any ideas on what to check to see why EE/MySQL is taking so long to load a few simple HTML tags?  Template caching doesn’t help b/c I have zero EE tags in this hello-world test.

    EE template of same code

    Thanks
