Just had a massive bug with one of our client’s EE installations.

One of the form pages had stopped displaying.
When looking in the template, there where 7000+ copies of the same template file.

The group ID and name where the same, which was confusing the system, as it didn’t know which of the 7000+ entries to display so was displaying nothing but a blank page when it was passed that information from the form.

Its a fairly standard page using a fairly standard safecracker form.

There is nothing there that should be writing new template files, however its generating new copies for no reason I can see.

Deleting the multiple copies of the template so there is only the single correct template corrects the problem.

Why is ANYTHING writing to the template table in EE?
The dates on the template duplicates are showing this is happening consistently over a long period, this template hasn’t been edited since the site went live. Template revisions are turned off and have always been turned off.

There are only a few addons installed (Low variables, Expressostore, title master, wygwam), one of which should be touching or dealing with the template files so its very unlikely these are causing an issue. The primary key and time-stamps seem to have been written correctly so its not an SQL problem.

This kinda makes EE not fit for purpose really, if its going to randomly fall over like this. I can see it is already generating more copies of the template file since I’ve cleared the duplicates out, even with no-one actually looking at the form.
