wiki path not recognizing wiki index template

Hello,

my wiki template group is named wiki, with only the index template in there.
However, when I go to the wiki url: mydomain.com/wiki,I get the following error below.
Yet when I go to mydomain.com/wiki/index the wiki shows up.

The code in the index template is:
{exp:wiki base_path='wiki/index' wiki="mydomain_wiki" theme="mydomain_wiki_theme"}

Any ideas?
