All of a sudden we could not load the site and kept getting fast CGI error!
I am using server 2008 and version 1.16
Re-installed PHP and now the sites loads, but it takes over 3 minutes for doing anything including the website access and control panel access.
    What happened?
    How can I fix it?

Sounds something at the server end and not EE itsself. I suggest contacting your web host, it could be any number of things…

we have our own server just for this site and have it on site with full access. we have other program such as calendar, polling programs, photo and video management, classified ads inside this ee folder in separate folders and they are are working fast. none of these programs use php except the classified module. it uses php with choice of Zend or ioncube for protection of license.
it seems like php issue. that is why I had to reinstall it to prevent the error message. After doing so the slowness occurred.
I just not sure where exactly to look and need help as the result. BTW, everything was fine before having to re-install php. I reinstalled the same version of php as before.

I’m no server guru but if it’s a Windows server there are a few things you can look at

    1. Permissions for FastCGI module, are they correct?
    2. Check correct support for PHP version, FastCGI, MySQL and other software
    3. Check error logs for clues
    4. Check to see if you have a load of temp files clogging up your disk (not unknown!)

    Thank you for suggestions
    I will check them out.
Yes it is windows server 2008
I have uninstall and re-installed PHP.
This is the funny part: I have other sites on this server (personal), and they are run fine. Even the modules with my ee website come up fast.

What I cannot figure out as where to manage FastCGI. I only see it in the server manager | roles | IIs , but it does not allow any changes except add/remove. this is true both for all website and the particular ee based site.

I have tried to follow the info on Microsoft site, but what they say and what the actual server is do not match!!!!!

One more note: when I look at processes, PHP-fastCGI is almost using 100% of the cpu!!! but I cannot figure out how to manage it.

If fastCGI is using 100% CPU then may be the root of the problem, or at least something causing it. All I can suggest is Googling the problem to see if you can find any answers…

I am still having the problem and have not been able to figure it out.

I can log into the control panel and work there without any problem. But to access the main site the system just sits there with a blank screen and times out.

I have not changed anything on all the pages for the site.

Not being able to see the site at the beginning was the reason to check the task manager and services.

Why is is I can get into control panel with no problem but the site just sits there?

    Any help? Please…

Loading the CP is probably less server intensive that loading front end pages, especially if your templates are pulling in a lot of data and you’re not using any caching.

I’d suggest delving into the FastCGI issue…

I agree with you 100% because when it happened I did not do anything to the structure of the site. the site just quit loading!!!!

You are correct, the fastCGI is the issue ... that is why I uninstall and re-install the PHP and even chose different options like CGI, fastCGI and no luck.

Other site on the server work fine like the control panel and not this one…

I have spent so much time without any luck….

that is why I need any help I can get.
