    Hi Guys,

I have a major issue on a live structure powered site.

A few weeks ago my client ran into massive issues where trying to edit any entry’s marked as pages or listing in structure resulting in the front end 404 template being displayed- and being unable to add or edit any entry’s in these channels

When we installed the site on other servers or locally the issue seemed to be resolved when the site was residing on my local box/ staging server.

I also did a test install in a sub folder on the Production server and upgraded EE structure and everything else and this seemed to have resolved the issue. So i repeated this process on the live site and the problem was resolved.

However 1 week later my client has just reported the issue has happened again, and is also happening to my super admin account.

Do you have any ideas how to resolve this? I have no idea what to do to resolve this issue. I am happy to provide access to whatever you need e.g. cPanel, EE admin access, ftp access and can setup a test install on the production server to provide a place to tinker if required. just let me know what you require.

Additional Info: Not sure if this is relevant but the issue seemed to spread from Admin user account to Admin user account over a period of about a week

NOTE: I have already run this by Travis @ Structure who thought it may be an EE issue rather than a Structure one, so suggested I contact you guys first.

FORUM ADMINS: I’m not too sure if this is covered on the EE forums these days so if this isn’t the best place for this please let me know and I will have to sign up for a support plan and submit a ticket.

    Thanks in Advance,

    Neil

I’d suggest submitting a ticket asap so the EL devs can take a look.

If it’s ok on your dev server, but goes wonky on the live site, I’d put my 10p’s worth on the live server running out of resources.

    Hey Rob,

Thanks for your input. That’s what we were thinking too.

I’m going to try moving to a different server in January which I think will resolve the issue, if that doesn’t work i’ll fire an urgent ticket to EL for further advice.

I’ve actually done some more research since posting this and discovered its to do with there being a limit of how many pages are managed in Structure on this particular server. Discussing this with a few other people seems to suggest it may be a limit imposed on the number of POST vars at the server level (or just a plain ol’ resources issue)- I’m pretty confident moving to a new server will resolve this issue- but it does leave me with doubts about the suitability of Structure for maintaining a large site tree in the long term.

Thanks again for chipping in your thoughts- Have a great Christmas!

    Cheers,
    Neil

Hmm interesting info about Structure… never used it myself but as you say it may not be suitable (in some circumstances) for large trees, I’m guessing the module does a lot behind the scenes, even when editing one entry?

    Happy Yule!

I don’t know too much about the inner workings of Structure but I do know that it adds a publish tab, this contains a drop-down to select a parent element from the site tree. So when your site tree contains hundreds of nodes I guess there’s got to be some overhead (this is entirely speculation on my part).

If I ever get some definitive info on the cause/solution I’ll post it here as this was one of those horrible issues that hours of Googling turned up nothing useful whatsoever.
