My site has various sections, ie features, tutorials, reviews, news etc into which individual articles are published. Each article has the option of having an image gallery associated with it.

In EE 1.7 it was simple to use the gallery module to add these image galleries with a separate gallery for each section but I’m now having to bite the bullet and look at upgrading to EE2. In EE1 I have galleries for each section and for each individual article a separate category and folder is used to maintain separation of the image files. This makes it easy to add a dropbox to the publish form to select the appropriate images to display in the article related gallery at the foot of the article. An example is here - http://www.planetseafishing.com/features/read/hunting-the-jet-propelled-squid

I’m resigned to having to import all the images from the existing site, probably manually, and I am looking the same idea to work in EE2 to ensure that a gallery can be allocated to each article.
Any suggestions on the best way to go about this?

Channel Images from Dev Demon should cover those requests:
    http://www.devdemon.com/channel_images

It will store the images automatically in folders that are named after the id of the associated entry.  So if the id for an entry is 238, you can find the photos you uploaded for that entry in the folder named “238”.

If you can get the data exported to a csv or XML you could then reimport the data as channel entries using the Datagrab module. From there you can set up a relationships field to relate gallery items.

    Thanks Rob for that option
