    I’ve been searching for a few days and found several answers to this type of issue.
    Previously my company had an employee who managed and installed EE for several sites. Now that employee is gone and the credentials are lost.
    Things we can access: the database, any files via FTP, control over all domain-related email addresses
    When I attempt to reset the password with any known email addresses, no one seems to get a reply, so I need a way around that.
    One video tutorial suggested a means around if we had registration turned on, which we do not. is there a value in the database that would allow me to turn on registration? or in the config files?

    alternately, is there a place in the database or the config files where i can discover what email address is associated with the admin account?

    Thank you all so much in advance for your help

    okay, found my own answer:

    add this line in the config
    $config[‘allow_member_registration’] = ‘y’;

    then follow the directions at http://vimeo.com/32597376
